Dr Andrea C. Valente is an educator, researcher, author, and editor in the field of humanities and social sciences. She is an active member in various scholarly associations and communities across North America, South America, and Europe. Dr Valente has held faculty positions in public and private institutions in Canada and Brazil. She is concerned about the current fragile state of intellectual dialogue and mutual respect, alongside the abrupt deterioration of freedom of thought and expression seen in higher education. Having experienced the first symptoms of "cancel culture" during her graduate studies in the late 1990s in Brazil, Dr Valente strongly advocates for critical thinking and diversity of viewpoints in education and society.
