Matt has taught as a first-year seminar instructor at Southern Oregon University for nearly ten years. He also serves as a pre-law advisor, leads free speech workshops, and teaches an upper division free speech course. Matt was a family law attorney, community college advisor, and legislative assistant in the Oregon House of Representatives and California Senate.
His current efforts are dedicated to studying and supporting free speech in higher education. One of Matt's research interests is the legal roots of equity and how its contemporary usage is antithetical to the term's actual meaning. He has also written about and presented on the relationship between censorship and creativity. Matt has developed different levels of free speech instructional programming for various audiences.
